Robert Smith enojado con el Hall of Fame - Olvidaron a su baterista Jason Cooper

Los chicos del Rock Hall of Fame han lanzado su lista de nominados al Salón de la Fama 2012. Entre ellos están Guns N' Roses, the Faces/Small Faces, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rufus con Chaka Khan, the Spinners, Freddie King, Heart, Donovan, the Beastie Boys, Eric B and Rakim, Laura Nyro, War, Donna Summer y los británicos de The Cure.

Y precisamente el motivo de este post es contarles que el legendario Robert Smith, líder de The Cure, anda muy molesto con losc hicos de Hall of Fame, porque en la mini biografía de cada grupo que aparece en su página web, olvidaron mencionar a Jason Cooper, baterista que lleva con la banda, unos 17 años.


Robert escribió: "BORIS WILLIAMS, LOL TOLHURST AND JASON COOPER HAVE EACH BEEN THE CURE’S DRUMMER ON FOUR ALBUMS… BORIS WILLIAMS WAS IN THE BAND FOR 9 YEARS AND LOL TOLHURST FOR 11 YEARS (5 YEARS AS DRUMMER)… BUT JASON COOPER HAS BEEN DRUMMING WITH THE CURE FOR 17 YEARS, FROM 1994 TO THE PRESENT DAY… JASON COOPER IS THE CURE’S DRUMMER – AND IT SICKENS ME THAT HE DOESNT GET A NAME CHECK… BAH! RSX"

que quiere decir: "Boris Williams, Lol Tolhurst y Jason Cooper han, cada uno, baterista de The Cure en cuatro álbums... Boris Williams estuvo en la banda por 9 años y Lol Tolhurst por 11 años (5 años como baterista)... pero Jason Cooper ha estado tocando la batería con The Cure por 17 años, de 1994 hasta el día de hoy... Jason Cooper es el baterista de The Cur - y me enferma he no haya sido nombrado... Bah!". Y termina firmando RSX (Robert Smith X).

Lo cierto es que muchísimos fans (la mayoría) no ha estado de acuerdo -en estos 17 años- con la presencia de Cooper en la banda. Y es que reemplazó a Boris Williams, el mejor baterista que tuvo Robert Smith y quien estuvo en los álbums más exitosos de The Cure. Temas como Just Like Heaven, Why Can't I be You, Pictures of You, Close to me, High, Friday I'm in love, etc. fueron grabados por Williams, y cuando decidió dejar la banda, hubo definitivamente un cambio sonoro que se notó y lo notaron los fans más acérrimos de The Cure.

Videos: The Cure en vivo en Australia presentó sus 3 primeros discos

Los ingleses de The Cure deleitaron a miles de fans en Australia, al tocar en vivo, sus tres primeros albumes: Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds y Faith en dos noches seguidas que quedarán para el recuerdo (se espera que pongan a la venta un DVD a finales de año!)

Pero el atractivo no solo estaba ahí sino que también Robert Smith, líder de la banda, llamó a dos de sus ex compañeros: Roger O'Donnell (que fue sacado de la banda en el 2003), y Lawrence Tolhurst que junto a Smith, era fundador de la banda, pero que fue igualmente sacado por sus problemas con el alcohol, en el año 1989.

The Cure tuvo una muy buena presentación de aproximadamente 3 horas durante el festival de Coachella 2009. 3 horas que se vieron un tanto opacadas por la decisión de los organizadores de apagarles los sistemas de sonido cuando les faltaban 3 canciones para terminar su largo set.

Los Cure terminaron tocando con el sonido proveniente de sus monitores dentro del escenario.

Bloodflowers marcó el regreso a los estudios de la banda luego de 4 años del lanzamiento de su anterior álbum llamado Wild Mood Swings, que francamente fue una decepción para la mayoría de sus seguidores que ya se habían acostumbrado a discos eclécticos y mejor logrados como Disintegration o Wish.

Hace algunos años muchos comentaban que en MTV, Robert Smith de The Cure había dicho que le gustaría visitar Perú. Los que no lo vieron dudaban de la famosa frase. La buscaban por todos lados y nada. No aparecía el vídeo en YouTube, ni por ninguna otra parte.

Gracias al Gonzi podemos ver y escuchar a Robert Smith pronunciar la frase en cuestión.

Se rumorea que The Cure, la mítica banda británica, estaría pisando suelo peruano a mediados de año. Ojalá sea así y que gracias a la reducción de impuestos a los espectáculos, el precio de las entradas no sea tan elevado para que la mayor cantidad de gente posible pueda ir a ver a la banda.

El video que les presento es el de la canción Primary, de su tercer álbum llamado Faith, lanzado en 1981. Primary fue el single del álbum pero los que lo compraron pensando en que el resto de las canciones tendrían la misma tendencia, se habrán quedado con los crespos hechos ya que Faith contiene canciones un tanto sombrías con ritmos cadenciosos, pero en definitiva es un muy buen álbum con canciones memorables como All cats are gray, The funeral party, Other voices y la misma Faith con la que cierran el álbum.
